Appointments and Fees:
Sessions are scheduled by appointment and take place in my office in Edmonds. My office hours are from 7:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
My fee for a 50 minute session is $120. This is somewhat lower than somebody with my years of experience would normally charge, but as I don’t accept insurance, I’ve happily made the decision to keep my fee lower. Insurance companies have become very intrusive and often ask for detailed and continuous proof that the therapy is “medically necessary.” Based on my discomfort with this continuous intrusion, and due to my concerns for the client’s welfare as well, I decided to go off of all insurance panels at the end of 2012. This makes me an “out-of-network” provider, and your financial responsibility for therapy will likely be somewhat higher than if I were “in-network.” However, because my fee is lower than what many therapists with my years of experience charge, the difference may not be so significant. If you feel a connection with what I’ve written on this website or even my photo, there’s a good chance that we’ll connect well in session. That connection is probably the biggest determinant of a successful psychotherapy, and from my experience, is worth far more than dollars of difference. If you’d like to work with me but want to use your insurance, I encourage you to call your insurance company and ask them directly what the difference between in-network and out-of-network benefits would be.
Sessions begin and end on time.
You may cancel up to two sessions per year without charge, so long as you’ve given me 24 hours’ notice. The next two cancellations will be billed at half my usual rate, with two-days’ notice. Any additional cancellations will be billed at my full fee. My cancellation policy reflects my view that effective psychotherapy is a commitment which needs to be taken seriously. You’ll find that except for scheduled holidays and vacation, I also don’t cancel sessions (except for the rare emergency or snow day) or book somebody else over your session time.
If you need to reschedule your appointment time and give me enough notice, I’ll often be able to offer an alternative time, though I can’t guarantee this.
Individual Psychotherapy: Adults and adolescents (17+)
Marital or Couples Therapy: All races, as well as all cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations are welcome.
